Ranking of Hands in Poker [Monday, April 09, 2007]

	Poker is fast becoming one of the most popular games to play and is renowned for being a game of skill. The most popular for of poker is referred to as Texas Hold 'em and this is the game that most players will come across in land based casinos and online casinos alike. We have compiled a list of hands and the order they rank in, to aid new gamers starting out.
Royal Flush five cards running in sequence from ace down to ten and all in the same suit. It must be noted that a royal flush is not a hand in itself but simply the highest value straight flush and so it qualifies as the highest valued hand. Straight Flush any five cards that run in sequence and are of the same suit. Four of a Kind a hand that has four cards of the same rank eg. Four sevens. Full House a hand with three cards of one rank and two of another eg. Three eights and two queens. Flush five cards of the same suit but not running in sequence. Straight five cards running in sequence, ace can be high or low. Three of a Kind three cards of the same rank eg. Three tens. Two Pair two cards of one rank and two of another eg. Two fours and two sixes. One Pair two cards of one rank eg. Two nines. High Card also known as a no pair hand, where the highest card beats other high card hands. This list is the standard ranking of hands in poker rooms but there are many variations of the game in poker rooms and some poker rooms allow games where the players aim is to get the lowest hand possible. Other variations in certain poker rooms and casinos involve being dealt 3 cards and some games discard certain cards from the deck before play commences for example, Mexican stud is played with a deck, minus the 8's, 9's and 10's. Poker is one of the most rewarding card games to play. It takes skill to play and also an element of luck for the gamer to succeed. Most good online casinos offer gamers help when they are embarking and this help can come in the form of a practice mode or in the form of a tutorial to help players make the right decisions when playing.
