Online Casino Industry Wishlist - A Better US Internet Gambling Law for 2010 [Sunday, December 06, 2009]
|
|
The United States has long stalled the online casino industry with issues concerning changing their Internet gambling law. However, it has been a year since the Obama administration assumed position, and no positive changes have taken place so far.
|
A legislation proposal has been spear headed by Representative Barney Frank that would potentially over write the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006. Unfortunately, the people responsible for reviewing and approving the said proposal have no time to give attention to the matter yet, and are still busy attending to the country's more important pressing issue, its economy and financial difficulties.
Rep. Frank is positive that discussions will soon happen albeit in 2010. The coming new year brings hope to Frank and the rest of the online gambling industry, as more and more are supporting the much awaited change of US gambling laws.
Gaming analyst Walter Boggs, was quoted saying "It is not a matter of resistance at this point, it is more about time and importance of the issue in regard to some of the other issues the government has had to deal with this year. I believe something will definitely happen in 2010. "
The recent changes brought about by the said US gambling law has forced many online casinos to pull out services from their US markets. More and more casinos are in fact pulling out since the past couple of months. A possible talk in early 2010 would be good news to these online establishments who already pulled out from the US gambling market.
The US government has frozen several bank accounts and online accounts linking to online gambling and several American players went in jail for their failure to testify against the online gambling sites. Eventually the US government grants these players immunity and cancels the charges as the US citizens used the Fifth Amendment rights to their advantage.
The US remains to be the biggest market of online gambling. The online casino industry awaits the coming of the next year, hoping for a win-win situation for both the online gambling industry and the US government.
