300M Anticipated Windfall for Google
[Monday, November 17, 2008]
Popular search engine, Google is expected to benefit in excess of 300million per year from its recent decision to give the green light to once again allow online casino companies to advertise. This reverses a previous Google decision to ban gambling advertisements.
Google has specified that for online casinos to advertise they must operate with a proper license and register with the Gambling Commission. This will apply to gambling organisations based in the UK and European. If an advertiser is outside these areas who wish to direct advertising to a specific market must have a license to promote online gambling in their respective country.
To advertise, gaming companies must create an account solely for gambling advertisements and must show a copy of their gaming certification. Furthermore all gaming advertisements must abide by industry codes and responsibilities including the requirement to display a link to a responsible gambling organization.
Responsibility for imposing Google's terms and conditions lies with gaming operators. Measures will also be taken to prevent minors from being exposed to gaming content.
There has been speculation that Google relaxed its ban on gambling advertising due to the credit crunch. This is expected that Google will benefit to the tune of 300million per year from gambling advertising.
